The Los Angeles Times ran a great story last week on Carroll Hardy – an interesting former multi-sport professional athlete, of all things, now living in our own Longmont, Colorado!
The story, by Jerry Crowe, puts forth countless interesting facts about Mr. Hardy, the most interesting of all, might be the notoriety of being the only man ever to pinch-hit for Ted Williams.
Other interesting facts:
- Played Football for the San Francisco 49ers with Y.A. Tittle
- With the Cleveland Indians he pinch-hit for Roger Maris (and hit a home run!)
- Pinch-hit three times for the Red Sox’ Carl Yastrzemski
- Graduated from CU and holds 3 CU sports records
