Tigers Take Out Wildcats

Following a solid showing in the Greeley/Windsor May Daze tournament, the Tigers were back in Longmont Baseball League play Monda Night against the Longmont Wildcats.

The Wildcats came in at 3-2 in LBL play, the Tigers at 1-3.

Longmont entered the game with cold bats – and quickly warmed them up notching 4 hits, including the first Home Run of the season, to tally 5 runs in the top of the first.

The Wildcats responded, grabbing 2 runs with a single and a triple, to set the score at 5-2 Tigers after one.

The second inning was quick and quiet as both teams went down in order 1-2-3.

The third inning saw the Tigers’ bats again catch fire with four hits.  A single, triple and another Home Run tallied four more runs.  With one run by the Wildcats in the top half – the Tigers now owned a 9-3 lead.

In the fourth, the Tigers added three more, again with good hitting.  No runs for the Wildcats and two more by the Tigers in the fifth put this one out of reach.

The game ended in a 14-3 victory for the Tigers!

Next up for the Tigers – back into Tournament action at the  Mother’s Day Tournament this coming weekend in Lakewood, Colorado.   As always, check our calendar for schedule details, and come out and support the Tigers!

Wizards Edge Tigers

The Windsor Wizards outlasted the Longmont Tigers on Monday night, handing the Tigers a 8-10 loss.

After jumping out with 2 quick runs in the top of the first, the Tigers failed to get the pitching dialed in, issuing eight walks in the first inning.   Combined with 2 hits and an error in the field and the Tigers quickly fell way behind, 2-9.

Never feeling out of it, the Tigers began the hard battle back, picking up 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  After 2 hits in the 1st inning, the Tigers picked up 3 more to push some runs across and make it  6-9 after two innings.

The teams battled to a draw in the 3rd inning, each scoring a run, taking the score to 7-10.

In the fourth the Tigers managed just one more run, and the rally fell just short, falling 8-100.

There was a lot to be positive about in the losing effort – the hitting came back around, matching the Wizards with 11 each.

Next up, the Boulder Bison out in scenic Boulder, tomorrow night.  Be sure to check our calendar for details, and come out and support the Tigers!

Tigers Snipped by Falcons

Posted by admin on April 21, 2010 under News | Be the First to Comment

The Longmont Tigers tallied their first loss in just their second game of the season to the Longmont Falcons 0-3 on Wednesday night.

This was a pitching and defensive showcase by both teams.  The Tigers and Falcons both turned double plays, had put outs at the plate, and pitched strong, resulting in an exciting, scoreless game through 2 1/2 innings.

The Tigers were the first to crack, in the 3rd inning  – giving up 3 walks.  3 runs then scored on 2 throwing errors in the field.

The Tigers did regroup on pitching and defense, keeping their chances for a comeback alive, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3 Falcons the rest of the way.

Ultimately the Tigers never found the handle on offense in this one -  and the Falcons never did crack.  With rain pouring in the bottom of the fifth, and time nearly out, the game was called at 0-3 – a win for the Falcons.

The Tigers head into a busy 5-day stretch of games, starting Friday with a 5:30 PM opener versus the Louisville Predators in the King Lyles Memorial Tournament in Denver.   Saturday’s slate has the Tigers facing the Longmont Stealth at 10 AM and the Eaton Reds at 2 PM.

Even more baseball follows that, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!  So, be sure to check our calendar for details, and come out and support the Tigers!

Tigers Open With Victory

The Longmont Tigers opened their 2010 season with a 17-2 victory over the JM Roughriders on Monday night.

The Roughriders jumped to an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first – however the Tigers quickly responded with 6 runs in the bottom half.

In the second inning, great pitching and defense were on display as the Roughriders were put away in a 3-pitch, 1, 2, 3 inning, all with put-outs in the field.

The Tigers then put some offense together, adding 9 runs to take a well-earned 15-2 lead.

The Tigers’ defense held strong again in the top of the third, yielding no runs to the determined Roughriders.  Ultimately two more runs scored by the Tigers in the bottom of the third finished the game – a 17-2 victory.

The Tigers demonstrated a great team effort, on offense and defense – and with solid pitching.  The Roughriders 2 runs came on a walk and a wild pitch, so this was a no-hitter by the Tigers.

Overall, it was just fantastic to see the boys finally get back on the field and play.

The Tigers have a 9-day break until their next game.  They’ll take on the Longmont Falcons, on Wednesday, April 21, at Sandstone Ranch in Longmont.  Be sure to check our calendar for details, and come out and support the Tigers!

Play Ball!

They’re back!  The Longmont Tigers have been hard at work over the (relatively) long, cold, and snowy Colorado winter – all in preparation for this coming season.  At long last it is here!

The Tigers officially open the 2010 Spring/Summer season with a Longmont Baseball League matchup on Monday, April12th against the JM Roughriders.

The LBL 12U AA division has a bunch of teams this season, fifteen in total, so each team will have 14 games, playing each other one time.  Certainly some variety to make the season interesting!  Like most of the teams in this league and across the State, the Tigers are just ready to get out onto the field for some baseball.  Finally, spring is here!

The game is at 7:00 PM at Draper Field at Clark Centennial Park in Longmont.  Check our calendar for directions and details.

Come out for some baseball – we’d love to see you there!

CHAMPS II!tigers_lbl_tournament_champs

Just days after securing the Longmont Baseball League 11U AA regular season title with a 10-7 win  over the Berthoud Spartans, the Longmont Tigers headed into the LBL end of year Tournament.

As the #1 seed going into day one of the two-day tournament, the Tigers drew the #4 seeded Longmont Force in the 9 AM opener.  In a high-scoring, exciting game, the Tigers scored 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning and held on for a 17-14 victory.

The next matchup was with the #3 seeded Berthoud Spartans – a rematch of the season ending game for both teams just a few days prior.   The Spartans again proved to be a tough opponent – avenging their loss of the past week with an 8-7 victory over the Tigers.

An exciting day of baseball ended with the Tigers at 1-1 slotted as the #4 seed headed into Day two.  The Tigers first squared off against the #5 seeded Longmont Titans in the 9 AM contest.  Refreshed after a nights rest – our Tigers surprised the Titans and put them away 19-9 in just 3 innings.

Next up for the Tigers were the #1 seeded Longmont Wolves.  The Wolves went 2-0 in the first day of the tournament and earned the day-two bye.   In one of the most exciting games the Tigers played all season, RJ pitched a complete game and the Tigers pulled out a 10-6 win.

In the championship game, the Tigers yet again matched up with the Berthoud Spartans.  Berthoud, the #3 seed in day-two, advanced to the championship by taking out the Longmont Force in the 11:15 AM game.

In the third-game of the day for the Tigers, starting at 4 PM, the Tigers had quite a challenge in front of them.  Casey pitched 5 strong innings and RJ came in to close the game out.  Both teams played their hearts out through 6 full innings.  This game came down to the bottom of the sixth – with runners on the corners, and the tying run at the plate, Berthoud popped up an infield fly to end the game.  The Tigers held on for an amazing 16-13 win to take the Tournament championship.

The Tigers are Champs again for the second time in 4 days!

Once again, what a season for the Tigers!  This is a fantastic achievement for this first year team – made up of many players who are playing together for the first time.  Parents and Coaches have contributed significantly with guidance & support, but all credit goes to the hard working Tigers players!

Congratulations to AJ, Alex, Alex D., Casey, Conner, Jordan, Logan, Sebi, Shane, RJ, Reilly, and Zach on a great regular season!

Next the Tigers are  on to State!  The Longmont Tigers have earned a berth in the State Tournament – to be held July 10th-13th.  Be sure to check our Calendar for details!

We’d love to have you out for a game!

Go Tigers!  Champs!

CHAMPS!champs1

The Longmont Tigers earned a victory over the Berthoud Spartans yesterday, 10-7,  in a close, hard fought game by both teams.

The win officially wrapped up the regular season title for the Tigers in Longmont Baseball League 11U AA competition.

What a season for the Tigers!  After starting 0-2 in League play, with losses to the Wolves and Stealth, the Tigers pulled together and went to work on improving as a baseball team.

The Tigers immediately bounced back with two quick wins and have never looked back.  Over the remainder of May and June, the Tigers posted an impressive 11-1 record after the 0-2 start, to finish in first place at 11-3! This includes a current 7-game win streak in LBL play.

Next for the Tigers is the LBL end of season Tournament – to be held this coming weekend June 27th and 28th.  Details can be found here at the LBL site.  After that it is on to State!  The Longmont Tigers have also earned a berth in the State Tournament – to be held July 10th-13th.  Be sure to check our Calendar for details!

We’d love to have you out for a game!

Go Tigers!  Champs!

Longmont Tigers Practice Commences

ltigerspracticeMajor League Baseball may as well look at Colorado as a new Spring Training locale.  Yahoo Sports reports that first pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training in just three days, on February 12th.  As well, we are only 15 days away from the first MLB Spring Training games!

Good for them – but the Longmont Tigers, like many youth baseball teams around the country, are already underway.  Winter!  Pshaw!

Okay, maybe Colorado winter isn’t quite mild or predictable enough for MLB spring training, but is has fortunately been good enough for the Tigers to get underway.

It has been great for players and coaches alike to get outside and get to work on preparations upcoming season.  We couldn’t be more excited for the season!

Also, don’t forget, Longmont Baseball League is having tryouts this coming Saturday and the Tigers are looking to fill one or two spots for the coming season.  If you are interested in potentially joining, please contact our coaches right away.
